Nancy Hornback’s quilting interests began in 1973 when she checked out library books and taught herself to quilt. In 1982, she was one of six founding members of the Prairie Quilt Guild in Wichita. She has been studying quilt history since the mid-1980s.

She was a co-founder, board member and quilt discovery day coordinator of the Kansas Quilt Project. Nancy wrote a chapter, “Nineteenth Century Red and Green Appliqué Quilts,” for the 1993 publication Kansas Quilts and Quilters. She is a former board member of the American Quilt Study Group.

Nancy co-authored Quilts in Red and Green: And the Women Who Made Them for The Kansas City Star with Terry Clothier Thompson. They are currently working on a follow-up to Quilts in Red and Green that will come out in Spring of 2008.

Nancy researches, lectures, curates quilt exhibits, and makes quilts. Born and raised in Southern California, she has lived in Wichita, Ks., since 1967.
